New highest peak in Sweden.

On the 5th August, 2018, new measurements showed

that the northern peak of Kebnekaise was the highest peak in Sweden,

2097 metres above sea level.

The southern was the highest peak before.

In contrast to the northern peak of Kebnekaise,

the southern is covered in a glacier.

The thickness varies by a few metres throughout the year

depending upon how much snow has fallen in the winter

and how much has melted during the summer.

The glacier on the southern peak has reduced

by 15 metres in thickness since the 1970s.

The northern top is now thus the highest peak.
